The Running Route:-
Red Route (6m approx):
Turn right from the car park and follow the road (with the cricket ground
on the left) across the Ythan. Take the first left turn (signposted Fyvie)
and follow the road for about 2 miles. About ¼ mile after the entrance
to the Kingscliffe Country Lodge the road starts up a fairly steep hill.
Stay on the road for about another ¾ mile and just before the brow
of the hill cross over to the left and enter the Brae of Gight Woods (signposted
at the car park).
Head down hill, cross an old stone bridge and continue
along the forest track to a wooden gate. Head straight across the field (avoiding
the cows)
towards the ruined Gight Castle and pass through the gate on the right hand
side of the castle. Follow the path downhill for approximately 100 metres
and then turn right and head uphill. Follow the path through Gight Woods
for approximately 1 mile eventually heading downhill and crossing the Ythan
(on a wooden bridge). Turn left and follow the riverbank path back towards
Methlick. Cross the river again at the next wooden bridge and head up to
Gight Castle. Cross the field and head down the forest track to the stone
bridge crossed earlier. 50 metres after the bridge, turn right and follow
the track to the main road. Turn right and cross the Ythan once again (old
stone bridge) and then turn left when you meet the forest track. Follow this
for 2 miles (approximately) back to Methlick.
